What qualifications does a nanny need?

There are many educational qualifications available to nannies in the UK:

Early Years (or equivalent) (CACHE Level 3 Diploma).
Most commonly, nannies now complete a degree in Early Years or a similar qualification. These are offered at various universities in the UK, the most well-known being Norland College in Bath.
It is a three-year degree program that includes both coursework and placements to gain practical experience in a variety of childcare settings.

National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in Early Years Care.
Candidates can also gain a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in Early Years. This qualification is obtained while working full-time, usually in a childcare center. The degree usually takes one or two years to complete, depending on how quickly the candidate completes the coursework.
To work as a nanny, we expect a completed Level 3 or higher.

Diploma in Child Care and Education (CACHE Level 3 Diploma).
Previously, candidates earned the Diploma in Child Care and Education offered by the Nursery Nurse Examining Board (NNEB), which was then replaced by the CACHE issuing body.
These two courses included both practical experience and classroom hours and takes two years to complete.

Is a first aid qualification required to register as a nanny or member of household staff?

Only candidates who work with children are required to have a Pediatric First Aid certificate.
This covers all the required modules and is valid for 3 years. After that, you will need to repeat the 2-day course.

Is there usually a trial period with overseas positions?

Usually, there is a probationary period built into the contract. This will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

What happens if a permanent placement doesn’t work out?

We employ a rigorous matching process to ensure that the selected candidate is the best fit for your household, based on your requirements and the candidate's skills and personality.

However, it is extremely rare that unforeseen issues arise for one or both parties.

If the original candidate leaves within the first 10 weeks (10 weeks after employment begins) for reasons other than employer misconduct, we will attempt to find a replacement (at no cost).

How do you pay a part-time member staff in the UK?

If you hire a nanny in a permanent part-time position, you are responsible for operating a PAYE scheme for all permanent employees in your household.

A temporary part-time nanny is self-employed and therefore the employer pays the nanny the gross amount.

Do we charge candidates a fee to register?

Candidates do not pay a fee at any time.
